Review:
As stated above, New Balance partnered with Fitness Quest in 2003 to start making fitness equipment like the New Balance 7.0 Recumbent.
The New Balance 7.0R Bike offers all of the essentials of a high quality exercise bike with some nice extras thrown in. It offers an extra wide seat that is padded for extra comfort.
The seat is adjustable and can accomodate exercisers from 5 feet to 6 foot 3 inches. We like the fact that the height adjustments are clearly marked for you so you can easily find the right seat position for your height.
The handlebars are ergonomically designed and and easy-to-grasp contouring to your fingers. Built-in pulse sensors make it easy to track your heart rate and stay in your target heart-rate zone.
The console has 5 windows for constant feedback of time, speed, distance, calories burned and heart rate. The console is attractive and quite advanced looking for a bike under $1000.
Another thing we like about the New Balance 7.0 is that there are 2 pedal options. One side of the pedals is textured and contoured to grip the bottom of your shoe so that your foot is secure during your workout. The bottom side is smooth and contoured so that you can pedal barefoot if you prefer.
This is a nice option to have, for those of us who hate hunting for our running shoes every time we want to jump on the exercise bike.
While the New Balance 7.0R does offer some impressive features, because it is fairly new, it does not have a lot of expert or user reviews as yet to back it up. Also, while we found it online for $749, we have seen it listed as high as $899 (plus shipping) which might make us think twice about buying it.
Final Conclusion: Recommended
The New Balance 7.0 offers all of the essentials of a good recumbent bike: magnetic resistance, padded adjustable seat, solid warranty and attractive, information-rich console.
The only issues we have is the fact that it is fairly new to the market. Also, we probably wouldn't recommend it if the price was $899 and up. However under $800 it's a good value.
Where To Buy At A Discount
While some sellers are pricing the New Balance 7.0R around $899 and up, we found it on saleat $749 at Home Fitness Club - a large discount seller of exercise equipment.
You can also get free shipping and save money on sales tax as well.
New Balance partnered with Fitness Quest in 2003 to start making fitness equipment like exercise bikes, treadmills and elliptical trainers.
Although Fitness Quest (who also make Ab Lounge and Total Gym) may not have the reputation of say, Schwinn, the New Balance 7.0 R might still be worth a look.
