If you're looking for a strong, sleek, well-built exercise bike that doesn't break the bank, you may want to consider a Livestrong bike.

Livestrong exercise bikes are newer to the market but have been flying off the shelves over the past year.

Livestrong is super-athlete Lance Armstrong's endorsed brand. Part of the proceeds from the sale of these bikes go to the Livestrong Foundation which helps to fight cancer.

Livestrong is actually manufactured by Johnson - one of the largest fitness equipment companies in the world. They also own high end brands like Matrix and Vision.

Livestrong makes a variety of upright, recumbent and indoor cycle bikes starting around $599 and up. Here's a brief rundown of their strengths and weaknesses:

Strengths:

1) Indoor Cycles - If you're a cycling afficionado, you will love the Livestrong indoor cycles. These are tough, sleek machines built for superior training.

For example the LS28 Indoor cycle carries the market's first drop handlebar design - with seven hand positions and fore and aft micro-adjustability.

It also carries an all-steel frame, a multi-ribbon belt drive and 40-pound flywheel. This is the same kind of design and construction you see in commercial environments like the gym spinning classes.

The Livestrong S Series Indoor Cycle has a cantilever brake system which gives you a “pull up” brake operation with minimum effort. It's also built with an all-steel frame with oval tubing for added strength; a multi-ribbon belt drive and 40-pound, chrome-plated flywheel.

2) iPod Docks With Speakers

The Recumbent and some upright models carry iPod docks with speakers. So you can plug in your iPod or mp3 player and listen to your favorite tunes while you workout.

3) Livestrong Interactive Technology

With most Livestrong exercise bikes you also get a USB device you plug into your bike while you workout. When you're done you plug the USB into your computer and it uploads your workout to Livestrong.com website.

So you can easily track your workout history over time. You can also download new workout programs from Lance Armstong's personal strength and conditioning coach.

4) High Seat Backs with Lumbar Support

The recumbent bikes have very comfortable seats - with high seat backs and lumbar support to give you a more comfortable - and properly positioned - ride.

5) Step-Through Design

Many of the recumbent bikes come with easy 'step-through' design, which means you don't have to hop over a barrier in the middle of the bike when you get on. This is great, especially for those of us who may not be as coordinated as we'd like to think

6) Self-Powered

Some of the Livestrong by Matrix bikes (the commercial grade series by Livestrong) are self-powered which means you can set the bike up anywhere and go.

Weaknesses:

Livestrong is not as well known as some other brands on the market right now, which is a shame since these bikes - particularly the recumbents and indoor cycles are some of the best on the market.
