Nordictrack GX 4.4 Exercise Bike – A Good Buy For You?

Nordictrack upgraded it for this year adding more resistance levels, a better console and more built-in workouts.
While it’s still a starter bike, you get some pretty impressive features for the price point – including a bright, backlit console, iFit compatibility, 16 pound flywheel and extra-wide, ergonomic pedals.
And with the tablet holder in the console you can enjoy your favorite movies or TV shows as you ride.
So how does the Nordictrack 4.4 upright bike stack up? Is it a good choice for you?

Nordictrack GX 4.4 Pro Upright Bike Review – Key Benefits:
Easy-To-Read, Backlit Console
While the console is smaller on this unit than Nordictrack’s other bikes, it’s still bright, backlit and easy to read. There’s also a scrolling message board leading you through your workout and a racetrack display as well.
The console window shows your resistance, time, distance, pulse and calories burned. There’s also a built-in fan to keep you cool and one-touch resistance buttons below the window.
Tablet Holder In the Console
A lot of people like to set their bikes up in front of their TVs so they can watch their favorite shows as they workout. But now with the tablet holder in the console of this bike, you can watch your favorite shows or movies on your tablet instead.
So you can place the bike anywhere in your home – where ever it’s convenient.
You can also connect to iFit through your tablet and watch real world trails pass you by as you cycle (see pic above). This can add a lot more fun and challenge to your workouts.
Adjustable Seat With Extra Padding
The seat is easily adjustable vertically and horizontally so you can find the right fit for your height. The seat is also oversized with extra padding for added comfort.
iFit Coach Compatible
iFit LIVE (now called iFit Coach) connects your bike to the Internet. From there you can plot out new paths to cycle using Googlemaps or ride pre-planned routes as well. You can ride all over the world – from Paris to Hawaii and watch real life landmarks pass you by in the tablet screen for some virtual reality fun.
You can also track your workouts online, set new goals and see how far you’ve come. You can get personalized advice on everything from your everyday activity to your nutrition and even your sleep patterns! iFit basically turns a boring old bike into your own personal trainer studio.
iPod Dock with Speakers
There’s an iPod dock with speakers in the console. So you can plug in your iPod and listen to your favorite tunes as you pedal.
16 Pound Flywheel
A heavier flywheel helps to add stability and gives you smoother ride overall. While it’s not the heaviest flywheel on the market, the 16 pound flywheel is still pretty good – and much better than what you’d expect for this price point.
Nordictrack GX 4.4 Pro Bike Review – Any Drawbacks?
While you don’t need iFit to use this bike (or the web browser), if you want to try it out, you’ll need to buy a yearly subscription online.
Also note that if you want the full benefits of iFit, you’ll have to use your tablet to connect to iFit and watch the full color scenery of the trails that way.
And while this bike is wireless chest strap compatible – it does not come with the wireless chest strap as some other Nordictrack models do. You have to add that in yourself.
The Nordictrack GX 4.4 Pro bike doesn’t carry some of the higher end bells and whistles as Nordictrack’s other bikes. It’s a bit simple, especially in terms of console design.
But it does come in for a fantastic price. And it gives you some strong basics like the heavy 16 pound flywheel, adjustable seat and bright, backlit console.
Plus the addition of the tablet holder, iFit option and iPod dock also give you some great options to make workouts a lot more enjoyable. Overall a strong, simple upright bike that won’t break the bank.
