Sole LCR Recumbent

The Sole LCR Light Recumbent bike is Sole’s premium “light” commercial bike.

This means it’s made to stand up to light commercial use like an apartment gym, physical therapy weight room or school gym.

It can also be used in high end home gyms (or home gyms with heavy use of the bike by multiple users).

Designed with a 2 degree inner angle cant on the foot pedals, the bike gives you a more natural body alignment when you pedal. This also helps to prevent aches in the knees and feet, especially after long or frequent workouts.

You get a monster 30 lb flywheel for a smoother feeling ride. Plus with up to 40 levels of resistance, you won’t top out easily on this bike.

So is it a good value for you? Here’s what you need to know:

Sole LCR Review – Pros:

2 Degree Inward Angle on Footpedals

This 2 degree inner angle slant puts your body into a more proper alignment and reduces the stress on your joints. This will give you a more comfortable workout – especially if you plan on using your bike frequently.

Heavy 30 pound Flywheel Gives an Extra Smooth Right

Different bikes carry different types of flywheel. A heavier flywheel gives you a smoother, more comfortable ride, especially when you’re changing resistance levels.

The Sole LCR recumbent has an impressive 30 pound flywheel, which is one of the best on the market.

Self Generating Power

The LCR bike power is self generated and doesn’t need any external power source. So not only will you save on electricity, but you can place the bike anywhere you want without having to be next to a power outlet.

Padded Seat That Adjusts Two Ways

The seat on this bike is molded and padded for extra comfort similar to what you often see in health club bikes. Plus it adjust two ways.

You can move the entire seat back or forward to find a good seat-to-pedal ratio for your height. You can also adjust the backrest angle (so if you don’t want to sit straight up, you can adjust the angle). The backrest adjustment is something you don’t usually get in home recumbent bikes and if you have any back problems, this is a fantastic option.

40 Resistance Levels

This is a lot of resistance levels – as many home units usually give you about 20 resistance levels. This makes the Sole LCR great for any fitness level – and you won’t quickly top out the resistance during your first year of use.

Extra Large Backlit Console Window

One of the things I love about Sole bikes is their consoles. They are some of the largest console windows on the market (9 inches across) – with blue backlit screens. This makes them really easy to read you workout stats while pedalling.

iPod dock with Speakers

Plug in your iPod or MP3 player into the console and listen to your favorite tunes through the speakers. While this isn’t an essential feature, it can still make your workouts more enjoyable and fly by much faster.

Free Wireless and Hand Grip Heart Rate Monitor

Stay in your target fat-burning zone with the hand grip heart rate monitor on the side of your seat. You can also use the free wireless heart rate monitor to stay in the zone. Many people prefer wireless because it’s more accurate. It’s also more convenient to use than continually grasping the handrails.

Sole LCR Review – Cons:

Be aware that there are actually 2 warranties on this machine – one for home use (which is excellent and includes 2 years on service) and one for commercial use (which is good – but not as long as the home coverage).

Also, while Sole is known for high quality construction, they fall down a bit in terms of bells and whistles. There’s only 10 built-in workouts and no online tracking capabilities which you get with iFit and Nordictrack for example.

Bottom Line?

If you’re looking for a commercial grade bike that won’t break the bank the Sole LCR is definitely worth considering. It’s built for proper ergonomics and back support, which makes it ideal for people with joint, hip or back issues.

Plus with 40 resistance levels, it’s ideal for multiple users at various fitness levels. And the backrest adjustment will also help make your workouts more comfortable.

While it doesn’t give you a ton of bells and whistles as far as built-in workouts, you do get a large, backlit console along with an iPod dock to play your favorites tunes.

Plus, the fit and finish on this bike are a step up from the cheaper department store models – it just looks more like a “commercial bike”.
