Nautilus R616 Recumbent Bike Review – Pros:
Bright, Backlit LCD Console
A lot of bikes at this price point do not come with backlit consoles (so they can be very hard to read). However the Nautilus 616 bike does give you a good-sized, 2-window, blue backlit LCD console.
It’s easy to read – plus you also have a media shelf to hold your tablet or phone.
The media shelf is placed so that your tablet will not cover one of the console windows. So you can still watch shows or surf the net on your tablet – while still seeing your workout stats.
Another great thing about this console? It has a USB port at the top. So you can charge your devices as you ride.
Adjustable, Ventilated Seat
The seat on this bike is molded for extra comfort and it’s adjustable both forward and back. You can adjust it while sitting with the lever under the seat.
This is handy since you can find the most comfortable seat-to-pedal ratio for your height while sitting on the bike.
The back of the seat is also ventilated, allowing air to pass through to your back while cycling, which helps to keep you cool.

Bluetooth Connectivity
The Nautilus R616 bike also comes with Bluetooth connectivity. You can easily track and sync your workouts with the free Nautilus app on your phone to see how far you’ve come.
You can also download the RideSocial App and use it to ride trails all over the world as you cycle for a more realistic, “virtual reality” training experience. You can also set up an event and invite friends to ride with you, which is pretty cool.
Integrated Resistance Controls
You get a very healthy 25 levels of resistance – so you have a lot of room to grow on this model.
Plus there’s also 29 different built-in workouts for even more of a challenge. Workouts include 12 profile, 9 heart rate control, 4 custom, 2 fitness tests, 1 recovery test and 1 quick start.
Heart Rate Controls
You can track your heart rate and stay in your target fat-burning zone with the hand-grip sensors on the side handrails on either side of your seat. This is convenient as you don’t have to reach up to the console to get a heart rate reading.
Nautilus 616 Recumbent Bike Review – Any Cons?
Seat Limitations
While you can adjust the seat forward and back – you cannot adjust the angle of the seat back – which a lot of people like to do. If you want a bike where you can adjust the seat back, you may want to step up to the Nautilus 618 recumbent.
Outdated Console Graphics
The console graphics on this bike are fairly outdated. They haven’t been changed or updated in years. Compare this to the Nordictrack VR25 console with a full-color, HD touch-screen console and you’ll see a huge difference. However for this price point they’re still pretty good.
Bottom Line?
If you’re looking for a solid, starter recumbent bike from a good name, you’ll definitely want to consider the Nautilus R616 recumbent.
It comes in at a great price – and still gives you some great features like the easy-to-read backlit console, media shelf, adjustable seat and plenty of resistance levels.
Plus you can always add a virtual reality training feel by using RideSocial with the Bluetooth on this bike.
While the seat has a few adjustment limitations, it’s fairly standard compared to other bikes at this price point. Overall, a great starter model.
