Nordictrack VR23 vs VR21 – Console Differences
The console is where you can see a fairly large difference between these two bikes. The VR21 has a 5 inch, simple, backlit display. It gives you the basic information you need plus there’s also an iPod dock with speakers and a multi-speed fan:

The Nordictrack VR23 bike console is a bit more premium. It’s larger at 7 inches across with a blue backlit console. The console gives you the basics along with a quarter mile racetrack display. The scrolling message board is a little easier to read than the one on the VR21 bike as well:

Nordictrack VR21 vs VR23 – Heart Rate Sensors
The position of the hand grip heart rate sensors is also different. The VR21 has them positioned on either side of the console. So you have to reach up to grasp them as you cycle.
The Nordictrack VR23 bike has the sensors on the bars on either side of your seat. So they’re a lot more convenient to use. Also the bars on either side of your seat also have resistance controls as well on the VR23. So again, you don’t have to reach up to the console to change resistance – another convenience over the VR21 model.

Nordictrack VR21 vs VR23 – Warranty
As you would suspect the VR23 also comes with a longer warranty than the VR21 bike. You get more coverage on parts, which gives you a bit more protection on your investment.

Nordictrack VR21 vs VR23 – Water Bottle Holder
Surprisingly the VR21 does have something the VR23 doesn’t – a water bottle holder below the console. This may be a small thing to most people but it’s worth noting.
Bottom Line?
Both the Nordictrack VR21 and VR23 Recumbent bikes have some great things going for them adjustable seats with lumbar support, backlit consoles with tablet holders and even the option to add iFit LIVE for unlimited new workouts and tracking.
The main differences between them are really the size and options of the console as well as the location of the heart rate sensors and resistance controls.
Basically the VR23 bike is just a bit more convenient to use – with a nice console and longer warranty protection. So it really depends on what you’re looking for.
