Schwinn updated it this year with a new bright, easy-to-read, backlit console with built-in media shelf.

You can also use this bike with the Ride Social app to ride trails around the world and watch the scenery from your tablet or phone.

The adjustable seat and easy rail-slide adjust also makes it super-simple to find the right fit for you.

Schwinn 270 Recumbent Bike Review – Pros:

Dual Backlit Console

This is currently the only Schwinn recumbent bike with a backlit console. The backlit console makes it easier to read your workout stats – even if lighting in your area is poor.

There’s also a 2-window feedback console. So you can still use the media shelf to watch your tablet – and see your workout stats in the console window below to keep track of your progress.

Media Shelf

There’s a shelf for your tablet, phone, magazine or Kindle in the main area of the console. So you can read your books, watch your favorite TV shows or movies as you cycle. Plus there’s also a USB charging port in the console. So you’ll never run low on battery power as you cycle.

Cycle Around the World with Ride Social

Schwinn has partnered with Ride Social on this bike. RideSocial is a popular mixed reality riding app. You can ride different world trails and watch the scenery pass you by in your tablet or phone screen as you ride. This lends a bit of virtual reality fun to your workouts.

You can ride by yourself or also with friends in real time for some fun competition.

Easily-Adjustable Seat

The seat is easily adjustable from the sitting position. It uses an aluminum slider seat rail with an easy-adjust lever to help you find the perfect hip-to-knee-to-toe position for your body.

The seat is also ventilated for better cooling with lumbar support for added comfort.

4 User Settings

The Schwinn 270 recumbent holds and stores the information for 4 different users. So you don’t have to re-enter everything when you go to start your workout. This is a handy option that you don’t normally see on a bike at this price point.

Runs Very Quiet

One thing we really liked about the Schwinn 270 was that it runs extremely quiet (which seems to be a basic feature of most Schwinn recumbent bikes). In fact the fan in the console actually runs louder than the actual bike itself.

Ergonomic Heart Rate Tracking

You can also get a quick heart rate reading by grasping the side rails on either side of the seat. Plus the bike will also work with a wireless heart rate monitor (not included with the bike).

Schwinn 270 Review – Any Cons?

Short Warranty

The warranty on this bike could be better – especially the 90 days on wearable parts and labor. Most bikes at this price point don’t do much better, but it still might be a concern if you’re nervous about the bike breaking down.

Simple, Basic Console

While the console is backlit and easy to read, it’s a lot simpler than other bikes on the market right now like the Nordictrack VR25 for example which comes with a full-color, HD touch-screen console. Still, for a starter recumbent bike, this is fairly standard.

Bottom Line?

If you’re looking for a simple, well-built starter recumbent bike – with a few premium add-ons, you’ll love the Schwinn 270 bike. The new updated version gives you a brighter console with the ability to add RideSocial world trail workouts.

You can also watch your tablet and even charge it while you workout. Plus the seat has been upgraded from the older (and uncomfortable) plastic seat. It’s softer and more comfortable with better lumbar support.

Overall the bike is simpler than some models out there. But it comes in at a fantastic price and gives you exactly what you need for a comfortable recumbent workout.
