Schwinn Airdyne Pro

The Schwinn Airdyne Pro is a new, premium Airdyne bike – a more luxury take on an old classic.

The Airdyne bikes use air resistance instead of eddy brake, digital resistance or tension control. This has the advantage of giving you unlimited resistance levels.

The Airdyne Pro improves on the Airdyne 6 and 4 models with an easier-to-read, upgraded console. It also has a higher user weight capacity and built-in workout programs for extra challenge.

So is it a good value for you?

Here’s a review of the Schwinn Airdyne Pro exercise bike to help you decide:

Schwinn Airdyne Pro Review – the Pros:

Multi-Position Handles

Not only can you work your upper arms on this bike for a full body workout, but Schwinn has added the multi-position handles so you can place your hands either vertically or horizontally while you workout.

This gives you a bit of flexibility in your workouts and is something you don’t get with the other Airdyne models.

Unlimited Resistance

A common complaint with other types of bikes is that they don’t give you enough resistance to be challenging. After you’ve been using some of them for a year or so, you’re topped out at the highest resistance and there’s no room to grow.

You don’t get this problem with the Airdyne Pro. With air resistance, the harder you pedal, the more resistance you get. So resistance is virtually unlimited on this bike.

Foot Rest for Arm Workout

Not many people realize this before they buy the Airdyne, but you can actually rest your feet while still using the upper body arms. So it’s a nice way to take a break if you’re getting a little overheated – and just work your upper body.

Improved Console Display

The console is easier to read than the AD6 or AD2 models – which are not backlit and can be quite dim. There’s also a built-in Tachometer that visually signals how hard you’re exercising. This is a cool motivational tool that can challenge you to reach new heights.

Stay Cool While You Workout

The air resistance also has another bonus – you get a great fan-like breeze from the flywheel as you pedal. So it’s easy to stay cool while working out (who needs a console fan anyway?)

9 Built-in Workouts

The Airdyne Pro also comes with 9 built-in workouts that you don’t get with the AD6 or AD2 models. The interval and target goal programs can help add some challenge to your workouts.

Schwinn Airdyne Pro Review – The Cons:

If you really workout hard – the bike can get pretty noisy. Schwinn has improved the design on this bike so it’s not as bad as it used to be. But it’s just something you should be aware of.

Also, while the bike is much heavier and more stable than other Schwinn Airdyne models (it’s 113 pounds), if you’re looking for something even heavier and more stable you may want to compare it against the Sole SB800 (which is a whopping 172 pounds).

Bottom Line?

The Schwinn Airdyne Pro takes the Airdyne to the next level with a nicer fit and finish as well as new, premium arm bars.

It’s larger than the other Airdyne models and heavier – which helps to add stability.

It also has an upgraded console and gives you new built-in workout programs for extra challenge. If you want the premium Airdyne bike, this is the one to get.
