Visrion R40 Recumbent

The Vision R40 Recumbent is the mid-range bike in the Vision recumbent series – and also the most popular.

One of the coolest things about this bike?

You get to choose from 3 different consoles (at three different price points).

So you get exactly what you want – and you’re not paying for features you don’t want or will not use.

The reclining mesh seat is also adjustable forward and back and is built like a health-club seat with extra padding.

Plus with the easy-step-through design, you don’t have to worry about tripping over a high barrier when you get on the bike.

Vistion R40 Recumbent Review – Key Benefits:

3 Different Consoles

You can choose your console on this bike. The Classic console (seen below) is simple and basic with an LED screen giving you all the basic workout feedback you need. This is also the most affordable console.

Vision R40 Classic Console

The Elegant is the next model up. It has a 10 inch high-definition touch screen and (unlike the Classic Console) is WiFi-enabled and includes Sprint 8. It also has Viafit connectivity so you can sync and track your workouts over time.

Vision R40 Elegant Console

The Touch+ console is the premium console with all the bells and whistles.

It’s larger than the other two consoles at 15 inches across and touch-screen ready. It also includes Sprint 8 and ViaFit connectivity. And it’s also Smartphone Compatible with Speakers and workout tracking.

Smooth, Quiet Ride

Vision is well-known for making smooth, comfortable, health-club style recumbent bikes. The R40 uses an ideal gear-pully ratio and a heavy-gauge 24 pound flywheel for an extra smooth, quiet ride.

Easy, Step-Thru Design

The R40 is designed with a heavy-gauge step-thru fame that gives you easy access to the seat. So you don’t have to worry about tripping over high barriers when getting on the seat

Passport Ready

All consoles come passport ready.

Passport is a fitness entertainment system that you buy separately and hook up to your TV.

You then place the bike in front of your TV and watch real life trails pass you by that also sync with your cycling speed to give you more of a virtual reality feel. This is not mandatory – just a nice feature to have if you ever want to try it out.

The Passport player is sold separately and comes with 2 preloaded destinations – Northern Italy and the American Southwest.

Sprint 8

The Elegant and Touch consoles come with Sprint 8. This is a unique HIIT training workout that is designed to give you maximum fat-burning in minimum time.

In just 20 minutes per workout, the program will guide you into 8 different high-intensity-training intervals. These are designed to maximize fat-burning both during and after your session.

In fact according to studies done by Johnson health (the company that owns and manufactures Vision), Sprint 8 exercisers burned up to 27% of their body fat in just 8 weeks without changing their diets at all – which is amazing.

Adjustable, Extra Padded Seat

The breathable, reclining mesh seat easily adjusts both forward and back to give you maximum comfort while cycling. There are also easy hand grip EKG pulse sensors on the sides of the seat for easy heart rate tracking (vs some other bikes which put them up in front of the console – which is less than comfortable).

Vision R40 Recumbent Bike Review – Any Drawbacks?

Starting around $2400 and ranging up to $4000, these bikes are not exactly cheap. And considering that you’re only getting a very simple console at the $2400 price range – and not much else in terms of entertainment – it’s a bit disappointing.

The money here went into the commercial-grade construction, and not really the entertainment or tracking options, which many people are demanding more and more these days.

Bottom Line?

If you’re looking for a commercial-grade recumbent bike that is built to give you an ultra-comfortable ride, you’ll love the Vision R40 Recumbent Bike.

It is built to be comfortable, smooth and extra-quiet with your choice of 3 different consoles.

So you can get as fancy – or as simple as you want.

While the price might be a bit high for some people, if you really love the Vision name, you may want to consider the R40 bike.
